fire in sinai, Nairobi

On Monday the 12th september 2011, at least 100 people died and several injured after a petrol fire in the Mukuru-Sinai slums in Nairobi’s Industrial area.

petrol leaked on the bypass between the Mombasa to Nairobi and Nairobi to Eldoret pipelines

Residents of the slum had gone to steal the petrol and then an explosion occurred at the heart of the informal settlement.The Kenya Red Cross is leading search and recovery efforts. It said 82 bodies had been retrieved by Tuesday afternoon.

-through the news channels which are viewed both on tvs and internet and they created awareness to other people

-telephones and mobiles were also helpful as people tried to communicate to there families after the incident happened and also communicate to other people for help

-satellite was used to see the situation and react to the quantity of destruction.
